The Pirate's Women

By Doug Draime

The house across the street has a
skull & cross bones flying from
the porch railing. The women who
live there come out everyday at
exactly 1:35 p.m. & do push ups
on the lawn. Their trim & sensuous
bodies glistening with sweat. The pirate
comes home around 5. At 4:30 I
can see the women scurrying thru
the house throwing rotten fish out
the window & rolling in kegs of
English rum.

Doug Draime's most recent book still in print is Unoccupied Zone (Pitchfork Press, 2004). He started publishing in the underground and small press in the late 1960's while living in Los Angeles, becoming part of the notorious L.A. poetry scene of the latter 20th Century. His widely diverse range of writing, including poetry, short stories,
and plays continue to appear in print and online publication worldwide. He currently lives in the foothills of Oregon.
