Issue No. 2

                                                On One Side...

I can see everything perfectly aligned,
the earth, every dying star.  I can see
the beginning of my heart beating in
a fuzzy sonar image inside my
mother sleeping.  My war is there, my mind
already preparing for the deeds
of its curled body, my milky skin
already the armor, my arm the question "Why?".

And in the other I can see the altar's
pinnacle of stone and whisper of fire,
the great army of who I've been standing
inside the mute sound of a hundred charred
endings, smoke rising like a twisted spire
of youth and age, the ashes of their dreams.
