In Flagrance

What fun it must have
been for the man
who painted van gogh
with both ears,

then told him he was
an ugly elephant,

with a memory
that fails to keep still
archives or records.

The way rainstorms
keep the measure
of his slow walk
to suicide or sickness

just past the tall grass
away from the herd
and water...
